The Midtown Trolley has been sponsored by local communities and businesses and will be free to riders. Unique buses with a trolley-style design will be used on that route starting as soon as 2017.
Riders can use the route to reach destinations like Layton and Clearfield FrontRunner stations, dozens of hotels and restaurants, the Layton Hills Mall, Davis Hospital and Medical Center, the Tanner Clinic, the Utah Department of Workforce Services and the Davis Conference Center.
The route was added following a 2013 Clearfield/Layton Circulator Feasibility Study, which examined existing conditions, transportation needs, ridership forecasts and population growth.
In addition to the new route, Prop 1 funds are being used in Davis and Weber counties to add additional trips on routes 455 and 473 and expand Saturday service hours and frequency on route 640. Prop 1 funds will also be used to add year-round service on route 667, which runs from Farmington Station to Lagoon and other points throughout the city.
Free fare on the Midtown Trolley is made possible by support from Layton City, Davis County, the Davis Conference Center, Layton Hills Mall, Tanner Clinic, Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Home 2 Suites by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Marriott Fairfield Inn and Suites, Marriott TownePlace Suites and Marriott Courtyard Inn.
