The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) resumed Baltimore Metro Subway service on Sunday August 14 – a day ahead of schedule – from the Milford Mill to Mondawmin stations after a 23-day partial shutdown for critical maintenance work.

“We are pleased to report that this critical maintenance work was completed ahead of schedule and under budget,” said MTA Administrator and CEO Paul Comfort. “I’d like to thank our customers for their patience during this important safety project. We are pleased they will have an enhanced experience as a result of this essential rail work.”

Due to the replacement and repair of major rail components of Metro Subway, there was no train service to the Reisterstown Plaza, Rogers Avenue and West Cold Spring stations from July 22 to August 13. Repair work included reconstructing three interlockings – a rail component that allows trains to cross over from one track to another. The MTA also utilized the time to perform additional rail replacement, track maintenance and station improvements.

To minimize the inconvenience to customers, MTA provided local and express shuttle buses linking the Metro Subway service from Milford Mill Station south to Mondawmin Station. During the partial shutdown, service continued between the following stations: Owings Mills to Milford Mill and Mondawmin to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
