Carol Perry, Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) Trip Reduction Specialist and manager of the RTC Vanpool program, received international recognition for exemplary work in Transportation Demand Management (TDM) work at the Association for Commuter Transportation international conference in Portland, Oregon.

Perry won the Commute Options Vanpool Award for the RTC’s Vanpool program. Vanpools save money, are easy and convenient, help reduce traffic congestion and create cleaner air. Participants in a vanpool split the cost of leasing a van and trips are subsidized by the RTC. The program has experienced significant growth with 95 vanpools now operating, including 15 to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County. About 600 people commute using the RTC Vanpool program.

“Vanpools are a great option – especially for those with a long commute. The savings are significant, and commuting in a vanpool reduces stress and is simple,” Perry said.

The Association for Commuter Transportation, (ACT), announced the award winners during the 2016 international conference held in Portland, Oregon, July 31st - August 3rd. ACT represents major employers, public transportation departments, and private sector transportation providers to improve transportation options, livability and economic competitiveness.

More than 450 transportation professionals from federal, state and local governments, universities, and major businesses attended the conference that kicked off with an opening reception featuring U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (OR-03), a leading voice in Congress for transportation options and livable communities. This year, 80 organizations were nominated for 18 awards in categories that include marketing, research and commuting options.
