The RTC Board of Commissioners will received the agency’s annual report at its meeting Friday, May 20, detailing accomplishments during calendar year 2015. Many significant projects were accomplished to improve safety and mobility for everyone throughout the region. During 2015, the RTC upgraded or installed 202 crosswalks in the region, created 27.1 miles of bike lanes and made 10.4 miles of new sidewalks and paved paths.
Among significant projects completed in 2015 were: the award-winning SE McCarran Boulevard widening project, multimodal enhancements on Keystone Avenue, sidewalks on Harvard Way and the reconstruction of Mayberry Drive.
Last year the region was also re-designated as bike friendly by the League of American Bicyclists. Additionally, the second and final phase of the SouthEast Connector began and completion is projected in late 2017. The SouthEast Connector was also honored with numerous awards including: the American Public Works Association (APWA) Nevada Chapter Project of the Year for transportation projects more than $20 million. During 2015, the RTC also underwent an extensive review by the USDOT Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration, resulting in commendations for the RTC’s extensive public outreach and community engagement.
In addition to the SouthEast Connector, numerous projects are underway this year to create a safer environment and give everyone transportation choices. These projects include: improvements at Pyramid Way and McCarran Boulevard, 4th Street/Prater Way, North Virginia Street and North McCarran Boulevard, Evans Avenue from 2nd Street to North McCarran Boulevard and reconstruction of pavement throughout the area following the El Niño winter.
