Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that Andrew Herring has been appointed partner in the London office. Herring, a well-known rail and transportation sector lawyer, will join the firm’s Real Estate Practice, working with the Global Infrastructure and Constr‎uction groups. He joins from DWF.

Herring specializes in advising public and private sector clients internationally on the structuring, procurement and delivery of major commercial and financing transactions and infrastructure projects in the transportation sector. Key recent experience includes advising on PPP/P3 transactions and on concession agreements in the global heavy rail and urban metro and light rail sectors, as well as logistics and port infrastructure contracts.

Herring has extensive experience of advising in the UK and on international and cross-border projects throughout the US, Europe and the Middle East. Among his recent work highlights are advising a leading US public transportation authority in relation to its new commuter rail contract, which introduced a number of innovative structures that are firsts for the US passenger rail market; advising a government authority in the Middle East in relation to a major metro system; advising on the ongoing procurement and delivery of new metro and light rail lines in the UK; and advising on the key legal agreements underpinning the delivery of the rebuilt Birmingham New Street station, and associated city centre regeneration.

Philippa Chadwick, head of the Global Infrastructure Group, welcomed Herring, “Andrew Herring is a go-to international rail and transportation lawyer. He has advised on some of the most complex global and UK projects, and he brings a wealth of experience to our burgeoning infrastructure practice.”

“Rail is undergoing a global renaissance, in traditional and new markets. We’ve seen significant growth in our work in markets around the world; from the US, where we recently won the mandates for new P3 transport projects, to the Middle East and Africa, where energy and transportation links are priorities for numerous countries. Andrew will play a key role in supporting our global clients to deliver these essential projects.”

Graeme Bradley, who leads the firm’s Global Engineering and Construction Group, added, “It’s great to have Andrew with us. He’s a well respected specialist whose experience covers the full range of rail advisory work. As the firm expands in the area of global transportation projects, Andrew brings a wealth of unrivalled experience which all clients in this area will benefit from.”

“This presents a special opportunity for me to further extend my UK and global practice whilst offering the comprehensive project support that clients often seek,” commented Andrew Herring. “Rail infrastructure projects require intensive collaboration and multiple skills, and Squire Patton Boggs has both an incredible global reach and a full complement of project delivery capabilities, with the right expertise in established and emerging markets.”
