SouthWest Transit held a ribbon cutting event for the “first of its kind” suburb-to-suburb (“S2S”) service on Thursday, Feb. 4th.

SouthWest Transit held a ribbon cutting event for the “first of its kind” suburb-to-suburb (“S2S”) service on Thursday, Feb. 4th. The event at SouthWest station was the second for the day as each agency involved in the service (Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, Plymouth Metrolink, and Maple Grove Transit) held their own ribbon cutting celebrations to highlight the service as well. Guests were invited to take a tour of the service and attend each ribbon cutting.

Speakers for the event at SouthWest Station in Eden Prairie included Eden Prairie Mayor, Nancy Tyra-Lukens, representative Jenifer Loon, and SWT commission vice chair, Jerry McDonald. The theme of the day highlighted the importance of mobility for employees in the western suburbs, the collaboration between local transit agencies, and gratitude for the Suburban Transit Association and state legislatures. As McDonald stated: “This is a service that could not have come to fruition without the support of the State Legislature, the guidance of the Suburban Transit Association, and the hard work and expertise of the transit providers themselves.”

“Being home to over 51,000 jobs, the most of any city along the route, there is no doubt that the suburb-to-suburb service is a benefit to Eden Prairie’s business community,” said Tyra- Lukens.

The S2S route provides a service during weekly peak hours to Shakopee, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Plymouth, and Maple Grove.
