MTA Closes Station for 3 Months

Dec. 23, 2015

Starting Dec. 28, MTA New York City Transit will close the Brooklyn-bound platforms at 111 St-Greenwood Avenue and 80 St-Hudson Street, as part of an ongoing major $39 million renewal project at five stations along the Liberty Avenue Line: 80 St-Hudson Street, 88 St-Boyd Avenue, Rockaway Blvd, 104 St-Oxford Avenue, and 111 St-Greenwood Avenue.

Station renewal work at 111 St-Greenwood Avenue and 80 St-Hudson Street will consist of repairs or replacement of mezzanine to platform stairs, mezzanine floors, doors, windows, interior and exterior walls, and the installation of new platform edges and ADA tactile warning strips. Each station will be painted and canopies, windscreen panels and railings will be replaced. Customers will also benefit from new lighting in the mezzanines, and other amenities, including new artwork. Similar work was recently completed on the Queens-bound platforms.

These improvements will create significantly better conditions for customers who use these stations, which were originally opened in the early 1900’s. The construction contracts were awarded in December 2013 as a joint venture to Forte Construction Corp and Emis Construction Group.

In order to carry out work on this project in a safe and efficient manner, the Brooklyn-bound platforms at the 111 St-Greenwood Avenue and 80 St-Hudson Street stations will temporarily close on Monday, December 28 at 12:01 a.m. until Spring 2016. Normal   service will be provided travelling towards Queens. Newly refurbished Queens-bound platforms at the two stations reopened to customers on December 12.

Brochures are also available at station booths.
