TTC Deputy CEO Wins Transit Leadership Award

Nov. 25, 2015

The TTC congratulates Deputy CEO and Chief Customer Officer Chris Upfold, who today won the Individual Leadership Award of Excellence from the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA).

The award was presented to Upfold for his exceptional work leading the TTC's transit plan for this year's Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, which delivered high quality transit to Toronto during the 2015 Games - the world's third largest multi-sport event - accommodating more than 250,000 Games attendees in addition to the TTC's 1.5 million daily trips.

Under Upfold's leadership, more than 1,600 TTC staff were trained and deployed as Games Ambassadors at 28 transit hubs, helping customers and spectators travelling through some of the busiest transit areas.

"The TTC delivered flawless service throughout the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games," said TTC CEO Andy Byford, who nominated Upfold for the award.  "While this was very much a team effort, it was Chris's leadership that got us across the line.  I asked him to deliver a stellar Games transit plan and he did just that."

CUTA awards were handed out today at the 2015 Fall Conference and Trans-Expo. The Award of Excellence recognizes a single major contribution by an individual, which has resulted in the betterment of a public transit initiative on behalf of their organization.
