RTD Begins Construction Work at Nine Mile Station

Oct. 13, 2015

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) began tie in work at the Nine Mile Station for the new R Line this week, which will connect the new rail line to the existing light rail system.

From Oct. 9-25, constructions crews will be working on the tie-in at Nine Mile Station by integrating the overheard contact system with RTD’s current system.

The work will take place on weekend nights and days, weekdays, and some weekday nights. During this time, passenger boarding and deboarding locations will change.

On the weekdays, passengers will board and get off the train on the outbound side of the platform – or the direction of downtown Denver. During weekends, passengers will board and get off the train on the opposite, or inbound, side of the platform.

Signage will be placed at the station to direct passengers to the proper locations, but riders are encouraged to plan accordingly and allow extra time for their trips as service delays are possible.

This work will ultimately mean that Nine Mile Station, near I-225 and Parker Road in Aurora, will no longer be an end-of-line station for RTD’s light rail system. When the R Line opens in late 2016, the new end-of-line station, Peoria Station (at Peoria and I-70), will be on the north end; and the H Line will end at Florida Station (Florida and I-225).

RTD would also like to remind riders to be safe. Do not touch or throw objects at the overhead power lines or climb on the power poles - if they are up, they are live with electricity.
