Vic Kamhi, Ventura County Transportation Commission’s Bus Transit Director, retires from the agency on October 9, after 15 years serving Ventura County transportation. Overall, Kamhi devoted 46 years to public service focusing on transportation.
“One could argue that there are few, if any, who have influenced transportation policy and transportation professionals in the state of California more than one Mr. Victor Kamhi,” noted Darren Kettle, VCTC Executive Director.
Kamhi supervised VCTC transit activities, including countywide transit organization/reorganization studies, short-range transit planning, operation of the VCTC Intercity fixed-route and dial-a-ride services, development of the coordinated paratransit plan, the Countywide smartcard program, and transit information and customer services.
Immediately before VCTC, Kamhi served as a Program Director for Los Angeles County Metro, where he managed the Revenue Development Section of the Capital Planning Division. In that position, he analyzed the effects of legislation and policy actions on transportation revenues. Kamhi served Metro for 11 years.
In addition, Kamhi taught many transportation courses through various professional organizations. He is a past adjunct faculty member at California State University Long Beach’s Graduate Public Administration Department and the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Department of City and Regional Planning.
Kamhi has a long association with the Boy Scouts of America: He has been a member and leader since 1955.
Kamhi received his B.A. degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, before earning his Masters in Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California.
“If there were a National Transportation Hall of Fame, I have no doubt that Vic would be a first ballot inductee,” Kettle added.
