VVTA Launches 45X Express Route

Aug. 17, 2015

Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) will launch the region’s first express route, providing non-stop bus service between Victor Valley College and the Victorville Transfer Hub at Costco. The service begins Aug. 17 and will feature three morning runs to VVC and three afternoon runs to Costco. The 45X Express Route will reduce passenger crowding and improve on-time performance for the popular 45 and 55 routes.

“We are looking to Victor Valley growth trends and adapting transit services to proactively meet demands,” said VVTA Board Member and Victorville Mayor, Gloria Garcia. “This is important to all who choose public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and improve access to economic growth opportunities such as education and employment.”

The weekly 45X schedule will provide service Monday through Thursday. Morning departure times from Costco will be 7:03, 8:03, and 9:03 with a 20 minute transit. Afternoon departure times from VVC are 2:33, 3:33, and 4:33 with a 25 minute time on route. Departure times feature one-way service during peak hours.

“The 45X is designed to ease traffic congestion on Bear Valley Road and add to the on-time performance record of the entire transit system,” said VVTA Vice Chair and Apple Valley Mayor Pro Tem, Barb Stanton. “Evaluating test periods in November and January, the express route proved to be effective in meeting its goals. I believe it will quickly become a favored route with riders.”

Funding for the demonstration route is provided by a Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District grant. The demonstration period will conclude June 2016, when an evaluation will determine whether the route will be included as a permanent service.

The 45X single trip fare is $1.25, day pass fare $3.50, and 31-day pass fare $50. Half-priced discount fares for student, seniors, disabled, and Medicare passengers require valid identification. VVC students ride for free, using current student identification.
