RTA Named One of Dayton's Healthiest Employers

July 2, 2015

The Greater Dayton RTA was recently recognized as one of the Dayton, Ohio area’s healthiest employers by the Dayton Business Journal.

Nominated organizations were asked to take an employee survey administered through the impartial research partner Healthiest Employer, LLC.  Only 15 area businesses, companies and non-profit organizations received the 2015 healthiest employer designation.

RTA Employee Wellness Coordinator Julie Bonsall said the award, “is really testimony to RTA’s commitment to wellness for its 630 employees.”   The Greater Dayton RTA fully understands and supports the value of having healthy employees, she added.

Individual employees respond differently to incentives, she said.  For example, employees can earn up to $600 per year in incentives.  Finding what motivates individuals is a big part of her job, said Bonsall.

The approach is comprehensive.  “We have updated exercise equipment in two locations, classes, bio-metric screenings, CPR training, weight management programs, a Fitbit program and other opportunities to receive one-on-one advice and training,” she said.

Over half of RTA’s employees are engaged in at least one component of the wellness program.  Bonsall receives support and advice from RTA’s wellness committee (Healthy Employees at RTA or “HEARTA”).

Coming up with new and engaging activities and programs is part of her job as the wellness coordinator.  A recent addition to the award-winning RTA wellness mix is a program to award employees who participate in several wellness programs a free membership to Link, Dayton’s new bike share program.
