Algiers Tramway Line Inaugurated

The fourth and final section of the Algiers tramway line supplied by Alstom and the Mediterrail consortium was inaugurated on June 14 in the presence of Algerian Minister of Transport Boudjemaa Talai, the Wali delegate of Algiers Kamel Bouldjoud, the President-Director General of EMA Aomar Hadbi, the President-Director General of the operator SETRAM Gregory Malet, and the Alstom country president for Algeria Henri Bussery.

The 23km-long line connects the district of Ruisseaux with Dergana and comprises 38 stations. It can transport up to 100,000 passengers per day. Alstom has supplied the city of Algiers with an integrated Citadis tramway system including: 41 Citadis tram sets, the stations, the operating equipment including the control station and technical management, communication and surveillance  equipment, signalling, the track partly supplied with the tracklaying system Appitrack, the power supply including substations and the overhead contact line. Alstom has also supplied a workshop and necessary equipment for the upkeep and maintenance of the trams. Alstom is responsible for the maintenance of the line and its 41 trams for a period of 10 years.

"This line, eagerly awaited by the population of East Algeria, will greatly improve the quality of life in the city while helping to reduce pollution and congestion in the centre of Algiers," said Wahida Chaab, project director for Alstom.
