Mark Huffer Joins HNTB as Kansas City Transit Practice Leader

Mark Huffer has joined HNTB Corp. as Kansas City transit practice leader. He has more than 35 years of experience in the transit industry, including all facets of transit planning and transit operations.

“A healthy transit network with transit mode choices is necessary for the economic wellbeing of any U.S. city, and cities across the country are recognizing this,” said Wayne Feuerborn, AICP, HNTB Kansas City office leader and associate vice president. “As these cities seek solutions to their transit needs, leaders like Mark help HNTB provide a spectrum of expertise to transit clients.”

In his role at HNTB, Huffer will be engaged in business development in Kansas City, and serve as technical transit operations leader for various bus, bus rapid transit and rail projects throughout the country.

Prior to joining HNTB, Huffer served the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority as general manager and CEO, successfully overseeing the implementation of Kansas City’s first two bus rapid transit lines, including the introduction of new intelligent transportation systems technologies. Previously, he worked at the Bi-State Development Agency in St. Louis where he was responsible for start-up planning for the region’s first light rail line and system coordination between bus/rail operations.  Previously, he worked at the transit systems in Indianapolis; Lynchburg, Virginia; State College, Pennsylvania; and Columbus, Ohio.

Huffer is active in transit industry associations and has served on numerous industry and community committees and boards. He has held leadership positions with the American Public Transportation Association and the Missouri Public Transit Association.
