Mark M. Pilwallis, PE, a senior project manager for Gannett Fleming based in the firm’s Phoenix, Arizona, office, has been named a vice president of the firm.
With more than 25 years of experience, Pilwallis oversees the design, inspection, analysis, and management of transportation, structural, and civil projects in Arizona and California. Throughout the past decade, he has served as project manager of the award-winning PHX Sky Train project at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The PHX Sky Train automated people mover system allows one of the country’s busiest airports to alleviate roadway congestion and enhance customer service, while serving as a prototype for airports seeking modern transit solutions. The project is LEED Gold Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. Overcoming challenging site constraints, the elevated system weaves seamlessly through the airport’s 3,000-acre, three-runway grounds. The congested site required many innovative solutions, including the world’s first mass transit bridge over an active taxiway.

Pilwallis holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a registered professional engineer in Arizona and Colorado, and holds a structural engineering license in Arizona.
Active in professional associations and the local community, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In addition, he is a board member and past chairman of the Support Sky Harbor Coalitions, and a past advisory member for United Service Organizations (USO) Arizona.
