AVTA Recognized for Excellence in Financial Accounting

May 28, 2015

For the second year in a row, the Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) has been recognized for its outstanding accomplishments in financial accounting. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recently awarded the transit agency with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, for its 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This award is the highest form of recognition for financial accounting, and AVTA officials are thrilled to accept it.

"We are honored once again to receive this award from such a highly esteemed organization, and commend our finance team for their diligent efforts," stated Board Chair Marvin Crist. "Their dedication to our core values ensures the agency's continued financial stability."

AVTA's CAFR for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 was reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the Special Review Committee, to assure it met the program’s high standards. These include going beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and preparing comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure. The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals, and has previously awarded AVTA the Certificate of Achievement in both 2008 and in 2013.

"The AVTA finance team is to be congratulated for their outstanding achievements," remarked Crist. "The agency as a whole gets better and stronger each year, and this award is a direct reflection of the excellence of the AVTA leadership."
