The Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has cited Jeffrey Knueppel as our Philadelphia Civil Engineer of the Year for 2015. This award, the section’s highest honor, was presented to Knueppel at the Section’s annual Spring Social, which was conducted on May 14.
Knueppel is a deputy general manager of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and has held this position for the past three years, following six years as assistant general Mmanager and chief engineer. He has been with SEPTA since 1987. As deputy general manager, he directs two divisions for the authority – operations, and engineering, management and construction – with a combined staff of 8,600 employees. He has concentrated staff efforts on the improvement of the reliability, attractiveness and efficiency of SEPTA’s services through the transformation of capital improvement delivery processes and the encouragement of workforce productivity, and has led efforts to successfully implement over $190 million in stimulus projects since 2009. He has focused his team on the Authority’s Rebuilding for the Future program, made possible by funding provided by Pennsylvania’s Act 89 in 2013.
Knueppel has recently completed service as the chair of the Transportation, Building and Construction Awards Luncheon for the March of Dimes, an annual fundraising event in the Philadelphia area. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Cooper Union in 1985 and 1987 respectively and is involved in several technical societies in addition to ASCE. He, his wife and three sons live in Perkasie, Bucks County.
