Modern Street Railways (TIG/m, LLC) recently delivered its first car in a contracted fleet of hydrogen/electric hybrid self-powered trolleys to Dubai for its Downtown Dubai Trolley System. The custom-designed and hand-built double-deck heritage-style red trolley was well received by Emaar Properties, the owner of the alignment.
“The brilliant red and gleaming brass convertible double-decker trolley will carry 74 passengers, and provide both open-deck and air-conditioned seating,” said TIG/m President Brad Read. “An attraction itself, the trolley will elegantly, cleanly, quietly, and while generating zero pollutants, transport both visitors and residents between Downtown Dubai landmarks including Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and The Dubai Mall, which welcomes millions of visitors every month.”
During the first phase of Downtown Dubai Trolley Project, the trolley will travel nearly 1km along Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, with three stations to offer passengers easy access to The Address Downtown Dubai, Vida Downtown Dubai hotels, and the Dubai Mall. When complete, the planned 5km alignment will encircle Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall.
TIG/m’s second trolley in the fleet, which is also a convertible, double-decker, heritage-style, and hydrogen/electric hybrid self-powered, will be delivered later this year to Dubai.
