RTC Begins Relocation of Effluent Line

March 10, 2015

The RTC is beginning the process of moving an effluent line in relation to the SouthEast Connector project on March 9.  People in the area may notice increased construction-related activity taking place north of Pembroke Drive across the street from the Rosewood Lakes Golf Course. No closures or significant traffic impacts are associated with this work.

The line will be moved west of its current location five hundred to a thousand feet.  Moving the line will ensure reclaimed water will continue to reach the irrigation systems for Rosewood Lake Golf Course, Mira Loma Park, and UNR Farms.  This will help ensure continued operations of the golf course in the upcoming seasons.

The work is in full compliance with all legal requirements and regulatory policies and procedures.  The US Army Corps of Engineers continues to consider the RTC’s application for a permit under the Clean Water Act needed for the second and final phase of the SouthEast Connector project.  The RTC confirmed with the USACE that no permit is needed in order to move the effluent line.  Crews will be finished moving the line in August.

Additionally, people may notice on-going surveys happening periodically at the SouthEast Connector site as part of the RTC’s commitment to monitor and protect wildlife.

When completed, the SouthEast Connector will link Sparks to south Reno.  The overall 5.5 mile roadway will provide vital congestion relief, feature a paved multi-use path and create a new 80 acre wetland complex.  The first phase, which involved the construction of two bridges and the first mile of roadway, was completed in the summer.
