Club Ride Commuter Services, a free program of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), introduced a new feature for Club Ride members – compressed work weeks. As part of a compressed work week, members can report their days off as an alternative commute toward their eligibility to win prizes while helping the environment.
Compressed work weeks are alternatives to the traditional work week of five, eight-hour days. The most common options for a compressed work week are four 10-hour days, three 12-hour days, or a week of five 9-hour days followed by a week of four 9-hour days.
Club Ride works with hundreds of valley employers such as MGM Resorts International and thousands of commuters to provide incentives to encourage commuting alternatives, like compressed work weeks, carpooling, riding transit and bicycling. Participating commuters who report their alternative commutes with Club Ride become eligible to win prizes every month such as merchandise and gift cards. Club Ride participants are also eligible for exclusive discounts at participating local retailers, restaurants and more.
In 2014, Club Ride registered 10,287 new commuters reporting over 1 million clean commutes, reducing 59.38 tons of carbon monoxide. Commuters saved $1.6 million by reducing nearly 6 million miles from Southern Nevada roads that equate to 240 trips around the world.
Club Ride Commuter Services encourage the use of a variety of commute choices, including carpooling, vanpooling, riding transit, walking, bicycling and telecommuting. All are designed to improve air quality in Southern Nevada.
Compressed work week commuters may experience less commuting stress, save money on fuel and reduce wear and tear on their vehicles. Commuters can report commutes up to the previous 30 days with the upgraded Club Ride Rewards app for iPhone or Android devices or via the Club Ride website. Other methods of reporting commutes include text message, calling Club Ride directly, and the touch-screen kiosks and VeriFone machines at employer worksites.
