DSE Seminar Focuses on Emerging Technologies

Feb. 3, 2015

Digital Signage Expo (DSE) announced Feb. 3 that its 12-part Digital Signage Seminar Program at DSE 2015 designed specifically for end user professionals will include an hour-long interactive session titled “Emerging Digital Communications Technologies: Just Because You Can, Doesn’t Mean You Should.”

Led by Daniel Orme-Doutre, senior content publishing manager, Microsoft, and David August, manager, Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment, this session will review some of the newest “buzz-worthy” digital signage technologies and share both successes and failures, as well as discuss the “basics” for choosing the right technologies for your audience, understanding how the various types of emerging technologies are being applied, and how these can influence your ROI.

DSE Advisory Board members recently had the opportunity to comment on this timely topic.

DSE Advisory Board member Thomas Kunka, senior applications specialist, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, said, “Put new technologies under the microscope by asking questions and walking through as many use cases and scenarios as possible before recommending that something be funded and implemented in production. The key is not necessarily evaluating each innovation separately, but developing systems and methods that lend themselves to inclusion of new innovations over time as they become available — without undue effort or costs.”

DSE Advisory Board member Frank McGuinness, revenue management analyst, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, said, “Considering how quickly solutions are brought to market, it is difficult to determine which might be a diamond in the rough. Not all bold steps forward in technology have existing comparable technology, but some do and evaluation of what has worked in the past is important in determining a “shopping list of requirements” when considering new technologies.”
