Collaboration intended to increase ridership, tailor service to fit needs of the community.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) signed a collaborative partnership agreement with Parker and Douglas County to continue to provide Call-n-Ride services to the area that meets the unique needs of the community.

“RTD is pleased to be working closely with Parker and Douglas County to continue service to the community,” said RTD Board Director Gary Lasater. “Through this partnership, we hope to increase ridership and provide transit options that are tailored to meet Parker’s needs.”

RTD Call-n-Ride is a curb-to-curb bus service that operates within a designated service area using smaller (14 passenger) buses. Call-n-Rides can connect a rider to bus routes, Park-n-Rides, light rail stations or to work, school and shopping. Users can call a designated number to reserve a trip, up to two weeks in advance, with service available on a first-come, first serve basis.

In October, the Call-n-Ride services in Parker were included to potentially be discontinued, due to not meeting ridership standards.

Members of the Parker and Douglas County governments worked with RTD to find an alternative solution that would keep the Call-n-Ride service running, as officials and the community felt the service is in-demand and necessary to accommodate the growing senior population.

“The Parker Call-n-Ride is an important service for our residents and one that the Town Council felt was imperative to retain,” said Parker Mayor Mike Waid. “The Town looks forward to collaborating with Douglas County and RTD to seek additional ways to improve the Call-n-Ride for our community.”

The agreement includes financial and in-kind contributions from Douglas County and the Town of Parker in order to fund the service, and an agreement to collaborate to improve and promote the service to grow ridership.

“This is an example of what we do best in Douglas County – partnering in the interest of those we serve.” said Douglas County Commissioner Roger Partridge.
