BART Board Elects Tom Blalock Board President

Dec. 18, 2014
Members of the board elected Blalock today to serve as board president until December 2015.

District No. 6 Director Tom Blalock will serve as BART Board president for the third time in his 20-year career as a BART director. Members of the board elected Blalock today to serve as board president until December 2015.

Blalock is dedicated to expand BART south. The completion of the Warm Springs Extension is among the top priorities of his presidency.

“The opening of the extension next winter will be the culmination of more than 30 years of work by a lot of people,” said Blalock. “I’ve personally been working on the extension since 1983 because I know it’s going to be a tremendous benefit to our customers in Southern Alameda County and will pave the way for BART to Silicon Valley.”

The Warm Springs Extension will add 5.4 miles of new track from the existing Fremont Station to a new station named Warm Springs/South Fremont Station. The new station will connect to  BART Silicon Valley extension when that project is complete in 2018.

Blalock is also committed to continued focus on BART’s “big three” capital projects: a new fleet of rail cars, construction of a new and expanded Hayward Maintenance Complex, and modernization of the train control system to support more frequent train service.

Blalock’s 20 years on the BART Board are just part of a distinguished biography.

Board elects Director Tom Radulovich as Board Vice President

The board voted to elect District No. 9 Director Tom Radulovich to serve as vice president of the board.  Radulovich served as board president in 2012 and has been a BART director since 1996.

Dec. 18 was also noteworthy in that it was the first board meeting for newly elected District No. 8 Director Nick Josefowitz. As Josefowitz’s biography notes, his commitment to world-class public transportation is grounded in his family and his community.
