Parsons PTC System for Caltrain Receives FRA Approval

Dec. 12, 2014
The new Caltrain PTC system includes several advanced safety features not currently deployed in other PTC systems in the U.S., including assured scheduled station stops and near-side station crossing activation.

Parsons announced the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has given Caltrain the green light to proceed with the installation and testing of its Positive Train Control (PTC) technology, a smart system to prevent train-to-train collisions. Parsons led the design, procurement, and installation of the PTC system for Caltrain.

“We are pleased to have reached this important project milestone,” said Todd Wager, Parsons Group president. “Through the innovative application and integration of technology, PTC will improve railroad safety for passengers and workers alike.”

The new Caltrain PTC system includes several advanced safety features not currently deployed in other PTC systems in the U.S., including assured scheduled station stops and near-side station crossing activation. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2015 in order to meet the PTC technology requirements established by the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008.
