Metrobus Service Changes Effective Dec. 14 to Shorten Wait Times, Reduce Crowding

The changes will take effect Dec. 14 and mostly include schedule adjustments on existing routes to provide faster travel times and improved on-time performance.

Metrobus improvements are coming to many routes that serve the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia in order to reduce crowding and shorten wait times in a continuing effort to bring riders a Better Bus experience.  The changes will take effect Dec. 14 and mostly include schedule adjustments on existing routes to provide faster travel times and improved on-time performance.  

Among the highlights of service changes effective Dec. 14:

  • In the District of Columbia, MetroExtra Route 37 buses will be rerouted to temporary stops while the Friendship Heights Bus terminal is being repaired. Route 96 buses will detour around the Supreme Court building.
  • In Maryland, Route 84 will be renamed T14. Routes T14 and T18 will add a limited-stop segment between Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail Station and Mount Rainier. New Route Y2 service will operate between Silver Spring, Olney and Medstar Montgomery Medical Center.
  • In Virginia, new station reconstruction to the Dunn Loring Bus bays will be completed and buses will resume service at the Dunn Loring Bus Bay. Westbound Route 28X afternoon trips will be rerouted to serve Tysons Corner Metrorail Station before arriving at Tysons Corner Center.
