SEPTA’s 'Stop Hunger at Your Station' Food Drive Breaks Century Mark

Customers and staff contribute over 100 tons of food during drive’s 6-year history.

Philabundance’s shelves are well-stocked this holiday season thanks to the generosity of SEPTA’s customers and employees.

Contributions made via station drop-off, text message and online during the authority’s two-week “Stop Hunger at Your Station” food drive reaped a bountiful harvest of almost 18 tons of food for Philabundance and its member agencies. Over the course of the drive’s six-year history, SEPTA customers and employees have donated more than 100 tons of food — that’s over 200,000 meals for families across the Greater Philadelphia region.

“Every year we can count on our customers and employees to come through for their neighbors in need by supporting our Stop Hunger at Your Station drive,” said SEPTA General Manager Joseph Casey. “We are fortunate to have so many caring people who ride SEPTA and work for the Authority. The donations have made, and will continue to make, a significant difference for local residents struggling to feed their families. The contributions are especially welcome during the holiday season.”

During the food drive, held Oct. 20-Nov. 3, SEPTA collected donations of canned goods at 43 designated stations throughout the transit system. A specially wrapped “Stop Hunger at Your Station” SEPTA bus toured the region throughout the food drive, collecting items such as peanut butter, jelly, canned pasta and tuna. Monetary donations received online and via text message during the drive also counted towards SEPTA’s overall collection total.
