Windows in Bismarck Bus Shelters Vandalized

Nov. 20, 2014
Damages to the shelters is estimated to be over $3,000.

Three Capital Area Transit bus shelters have been vandalized over the past 21 days.

The bus shelters are located at varying locations around Bismarck: near West Central Human Services, BECEP and the south Wal-Mart. Damages to the shelters is estimated to be over $3,000.

“It is never a good thing when someone vandalizes our shelters,” said Transit Director Robin Werre. “It borders on completely senseless. Especially with the shelter near BECEP that was dedicated to Mary Ann Anderson, it is very sad that someone would want to destroy that.”

The shelter near WCHSC was vandalized on two separate occasions around Halloween. The two attacks resulted in five broken windows. Meanwhile, the shelter near BECEP had five windows broken at the beginning of the second full week in November. Three windows were broken at the shelter near the Wal-Mart location on Nov. 19 between about 7:48 a.m. and 8:48 a.m.

“We’re asking that if anyone sees a vandalized shelter, to call us at 323-9CAT (9228),” said Werre. “And if you see anything suspicious happening with one of the shelters, to contact the police department.”
