Even Jolly Saint Nick agrees, ’tis the season to ride the Silver Line for more convenient access to two of the region’s major shopping destinations—Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria.

Following the arrival of Santa and friends aboard a special holiday Silver Line train at Tysons Corner Station, Metro, together with Tysons Corner Partnership and Tysons Corner Center on Nov. 14 announced “Silver Saturdays,” a special holiday promotion to encourage Metro riders from across the region to visit the great shopping and entertainment destinations that are now easily accessible via the Silver Line.

The promotion includes a full slate of discounts from participating retailers, restaurants and hotels available to Metro riders who show their SmarTrip card on Silver Saturdays this holiday season.

“We are thrilled about the opportunities this great new partnership will offer shoppers and our retailers this holiday season,” said Bob Maurer, senior marketing director at Macerich, which owns and operates Tysons Corner Center. “Whether it’s the convenience of taking the Silver Line right to our doorstep at Tysons Corner Center, receiving special discounts from more than 60 retailers when you show your SmarTrip card, or taking advantage of our new ‘Deliv’ service, which delivers your holiday purchases directly to your home same-day, this partnership will make it easier than ever to enjoy a hassle-free holiday season.”

By offering a convenient alternative to holiday traffic and parking, the Silver Line is expected to transform Tysons this winter holiday season. The Silver Line gives holiday shoppers traveling to Fairfax County a new stress-free way to avoid congestion in Tysons, while saving on fuel and parking.

“The vibrant economy in Tysons has been turbo-charged by the arrival of the Silver Line Metro,” said Michael Caplin, president of the Tysons Partnership. “Hotels, restaurants, and merchants across Tysons are rolling-out a silver carpet of welcome this holiday season.”

Metro riders can board the Silver Line in Maryland, the District or Virginia for dining, entertainment, shopping and to seek out new job opportunities in Virginia’s largest economic hub.

“Metro is pleased to partner with Tysons area businesses this holiday season to introduce our riders to all that Tysons has to offer,” said Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles.  “Tysons has truly embraced the Silver Line, and we’re proud to provide this new, traffic-free, hassle-free connection for the entire region.”

Tysons Corner Station remains one of a few stations on the Metrorail system where ridership is higher on Saturday than regular weekdays, primarily a result of people traveling to and from shopping destinations. The station is the second busiest new Silver Line station on weekdays with nearly 6,000 entries and exits.
