Matthew G. Verhoff has been named a principal technical specialist for rail operations and planning in the Austin, Texas office of Parsons Brinckerhoff.

In his new position, Mr. Verhoff will manage rail operations and planning projects, including the development of complex railroad and transit service plans, operating plans, train schedules, manpower/crew staffing plans, and train-set equipment cycles and fleet planning.

Verhoff has over 20 years of railroad industry experience. He most recently served as director of rail operations for Capital Metro in Austin, responsible for rail systems/infrastructure, and rail fleet maintenance, including the design, construction, start-up, operation, and modification of Capital Metro Rail. He previously served as manager of freight operations for the Canadian National Railroad.  From 2010 to 2012, he was a railroad operation and service strategies consultant for Parsons Brinckerhoff. From 2001 to 2010 Mr. Verhoff served in various management positions in the transportation and service planning departments of the MTA Long Island Rail Road and also completed the agency’s operations management program.

Verhoff received training as a Class I locomotive engineer, yardmaster, and freight conductor when he was employed with Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1994 to 2000.
