Artwork by grand prize winners from Aurora and Cherry Creek schools will wrap a 40-foot bus.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD), in partnership with the Aurora and Cherry Creek school districts, announced the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each district in the “I Heart My RTD” student art contest pilot program.

Some 2,400 middle school art students from the Aurora and Cherry Creek school districts submitted artwork on an interior bus card that represents what public transportation means and how it benefits the community. The contest theme was “My World. My Art. My RTD”. The grand prize winner from each district will work with an RTD graphic designer over the next couple of weeks to incorporate their design onto the side of a bus. The bus featuring the students’ artwork will be unveiled at a special event with the winning schools.

From Oct. 17-24, RTD received over 45,000 online votes from the public for their favorite artwork. An art committee comprised of judges from RTD and the community chose the two 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from the top three designs from each district with the most online votes.

All of the thousands of student entries will be showcased inside RTD buses throughout the district in the upcoming months.
