Cummins Showcases Extensive Engine Linup at APTA Expo

Cummins Inc. presented its comprehensive engine lineup for public transportation customers at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Expo in Houston. Products available for both transit bus and rail markets were on display, representing the diverse portfolio of Cummins diesel and natural gas engines. The breadth of product offerings demonstrates Cummins commitment to deliver reliable and fuel-efficient solutions for customers across all public transportation segments.

The Expo marks the first time that products serving transit bus and rail markets have been jointly displayed in North America, featuring engines ranging from 6.7L to 95L. “The wide range of products on display highlights Cummins ability to successfully leverage our product experience across markets,” said Laura Chasse, general manager – Bus Business. “It’s exciting to see the lineup of products, from 200 hp to 4400 hp, that are available for our customers in the public transportation industry.”

Cummins offers diesel, diesel-electric hybrid and natural gas engines for transit and shuttle bus applications, providing options designed to meet the unique needs of their operations. The ISB6.7, with ratings from 200 hp to 300 hp (149-224 kW), and ISL9, with ratings from 260 hp to 380 hp

(194-283 kW), deliver the performance, dependability and efficiency that customers have come to expect from Cummins. Diesel-electric hybrid ratings are also offered on the ISB6.7 at 280 hp (209 kW) and ISL9 at 330 hp (246 kW). Cummins Westport ISL G natural gas engine, with ratings from 250 hp to 320 hp (186-239 kW), continues to be the natural choice for customers preferring a clean, reliable alternative fuel solution.

Cummins product lineup for the North American passenger rail market includes the QSK95, QSK60 and QSK19-R, offering quieter operation, increased fuel economy and Tier 4 ultra-low emissions. With up to 4400 hp (3281 kW), the QSK95 is the highest-output 16-cylinder high-speed diesel available.

“Cummins is delighted to debut the QSK95 at APTA for the public transportation market,” stated Glen Rees, Business Manager – Rail Business. “Customer excitement continues to build for the QSK95, as it was recently named the prime mover for the Siemens Charger diesel-electric passenger locomotive, winning a 35-unit initial order operating across five states.”

In addition to the QSK95, the QSK60 delivers up to 2700 hp (2013 kW), and provides customers with unmatched performance, lower fuel consumption and longer life-to-overhaul. Cummins also offers the QSX19-R, which is a popular option for underfloor passenger railcar installations, powering hundreds of diesel multiple unit (DMU) railcars globally. As the first railcar engine produced in North America certified to meet Tier 4 emissions standards, the QSX19-R, rated at 760 hp (567 kW), is in a horizontal configuration that enables an installation that is easier to maintain and service, leading to lower operating costs while maintaining necessary vehicle targets for high speed, rapid acceleration and extended life-to-overhaul.
