TransTech Power Transfer Systems understands the demand for instant information.

The Company will be demonstrating a catenary monitoring system known as Pandas. The system provides instant notifications of pantograph impacts on the catenary. The Pandas system attaches two accelerometers to the pantograph head. When the head strikes an obstruction on the catenary, a report is immediately generated. The Pandas system uses Bluetooth and GSM connections to provide a precise GPS stamp of the date, time, and location of the impact. The user sets the impact level desired for receiving a notification, and the report can be sent via e-mail or text message to the responsible party. This allows for immediate response from infrastructure teams, and can help proactively avoid many instances of large-scale damage to pantographs or catenary wire which can be costly and disrupt revenue service. Such a system provides accurate location assessment without the need for expensive video monitoring services. TransTech will be demonstrating this system in the Wabtec booth 5223 on-demand. Users will be able to strike the head of our pantograph, and, within a few seconds, watch as a report is generated and sent to one of the demonstrators.
