People can take an unlimited number of free rides on DART buses during Try Transit Week, which runs Oct. 5-11. The offer is good on DART Local, Express, Flex and On Call services.

The promotion highlights the improved transit system and an increased level of information about bus service in Greater Des Moines, including the real-time bus location information available with MyDART Tools.

“We made it easier for people to plan their travel by DART with the introduction of MyDART Trip Planner last October. Now riders, and potential new riders, have peace of mind in knowing exactly when their bus will be at their stop,” Marketing Director Kirstin Baer-Harding said.

“We want to encourage riders to use MyDART Tools to better plan their days and reassure potential new riders that riding DART is easy with the information available via MyDART Tools.”

DART strives to meet the rising demand for increased transit information and technology with the September release of the Next DART Bus feature in MyDART Trip Planner, MyDART Real-Time Map and MyDART Alerts. This will be the first large-scale test of the new technology and feedback is welcomed for ongoing improvement.

Also as part of Try Transit Week, DART staff will meet with potential new riders at locations in downtown Des Moines, Altoona, Clive and Grimes.
