Los Angeles is a city long known for the worst congestion in the nation, but people are choosing to improve their commutes by sharing the ride. And to celebrate their commitment to beating traffic, Metro will be issuing ‘Get Out of Traffic Licenses’ to commuters at four Metro stations and at the Civic Center Clean Air/Rideshare Fair during California Rideshare Week, Oct. 6 – 10.
During Rideshare Week, Metro will issue ‘Get Out of Traffic Licenses’ to anyone who has tried carpooling, vanpooling, taking transit, walking or bicycling to work.
Metro also will be giving out Rideshare Week goodie bags at the listed locations. Goodie bags include a reusable tote bag, buttons, and more. Bags will be handed out each day on a first come, first served basis until supplies run out.
During Rideshare Week, Southland commuters also will have a chance to win great prizes by pledging to share the ride online at metro.net/rideshareweek. Pledging to rideshare even just one day out of the week will enter you in the raffle. Prizes include gift cards and tablets, among other items.
Metro has numerous programs dedicated towards helping the public share the ride. It has an expanding bus and rail system that currently sees more than 1.5 million boardings per day. Metro also has the largest vanpool program in the country with more than 1,300 vanpool routes serving Los Angeles County worksites daily. The Metro Vanpool Program provides lease fare subsidies of up to $400 per month per vanpool. Vanpooler commuters report shaving an average of 20 minutes off of their commute time when using the regional carpool lanes and Metro ExpressLanes. Metro offers ridematching services for those seeking carpools, vanpools or bike commute groups to join, as well as support to thousands of commuters sharing the ride through Metro Rewards and Guaranteed Ride Home. And Metro’s School Pool program and Safe Routes to School program help parents find carpools and walking and bike routes so they can get their kids to school without the hassle of traffic.
