Transdev CEO, Mark Joseph, announced that Mike Murray has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of the company’s Transit Division. The promotion is effective Oct. 1. He will take the place of Ken Westbrook, who was recently promoted to chairman of the transit division. Murray previously served as senior vice-president.
In his new role, Murray will work with the company’s senior management team to continue its growth as the largest private-sector operator of multiple modes of transit. This includes 120 locations/contracts and over 17,000 employees in the U.S. and English-speaking Canada, that are part of Transdev’s bus, paratransit, and bus rapid transit (BRT) contracts with transit authorities, universities and airports. His responsibilities include operational and financial performance, safety, maintenance, customer service, technology, budgets, planning, and quality assurance.
In making the announcement Joseph said, “Mike is an experienced leader and innovator in our industry. He has made key contributions to our operations in his time with us to date, and will further enhance our performance-driven culture. He brings a wealth of knowledge to ensure that we continue to provide the safest, highest quality service to our clients and passengers.”
Prior to joining Transdev, Murray served as president and CEO of FirstGroup America, which included First Student, First Transit, First Vehicle Services, First Services, First Mobile Technologies and Greyhound Lines. He was responsible for revenues of $5 billion and nearly 100,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada. Murray practiced corporate, labor and employment law in both the trucking and passenger transportation industries. His academic history includes a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s Degree in Labor and Human Resources, and a Law Degree.
