The Toronto Transit Commission congratulates Transit App for winning the most votes in a recent blogTO/TTC online contest to find Toronto's favourite transit app.

Rocketman and Moovit were also short-listed in the contest, which ended July 13. As the winning app, Transit App will be promoted and officially endorsed by the TTC for the next year.

"We couldn't be more happy that Toronto chose Transit App! We're thrilled the TTC is officially endorsing our app, and we're proud that tens of thousands of the region's commuters use it every day.  We look forward to improving the transit experience of many more users in Toronto and around the world," said Transit App Co-Founder and CEO Sam Vermette.

"Transit App is a great tool and we're so pleased to be able to promote it directly to our customers. While the TTC continues to expand information via our website, trip planner and social media we are excited to be able to have our customers get real time information directly to their mobile device via Transit App," said TTC Deputy CEO and Chief Customer Officer Chris Upfold.

Transit App finds rider departure times using real time GPS data. More than 4,500 people voted in the contest, which ran from June 19 to July 13.  The process of selecting the three finalists began in March when blogTO asked readers for their suggestions. Only those apps available for use on both iOS and Android devices were included in the final voting. All apps work using the GPS feed that TTC provides to Open Data-Toronto.

In December 2013, former TTC Chair Karen Stintz proposed that the TTC undertake a contest to help improve customer knowledge of self-serve opportunities with third-party mobile apps using TTC open data.
