Brazil: RAD to Provide Train-to-Ground Broadband Communications Solution for São Paulo Monorail

July 22, 2014
Uninterrupted live video, voice and Wi-Fi for trains running at up to 200 km/hour.

RAD will provide a wireless communications solution that ensures uninterrupted train-to-ground communication between São Paulo’s new monorail and the system’s control centers.

The deployment will be carried out by T`TRANS, the company responsible for the provisioning and integration of telecommunications systems for the São Paulo Monorail Line 17-Gold project.

The wireless communication system is based on RAD’s advanced Airmux-5000 Mobility, point-to-multipoint 5GHz radios. A total of 18 stations and 26 trains operating over 18 km of track will be connected and enjoy advanced new services such as surveillance cameras, warning systems, electronic advertising, Wi-Fi connectivity, telecommand channels, and more.

“The important differentiators of RAD technology are its level of reliability, availability and coverage over extended distances,” notes Valter Teixeira, general manager of RAD Brazil. “All this combines to guarantee uninterrupted connectivity with the monorail, traveling at speeds of up to 200 km per hour, while supplying sufficient bandwidth for video, voice and data communications.” concludes Teixeira.
