At its May, 2014 board meeting, the Transit Mutual Insurance Co. of Wisconsin (TMI) announced that the Janesville Transit System was awarded the “2013 Most Improved System” award.

The award is given each spring to one transit system in each of four size categories to recognize strides in reducing the number of liability claims requiring payment or expected payment by the insurance company in comparison to the previous calendar year. Size categories are based on the number of miles driven, and Janesville’s category included three other transit systems.

For 2013, JTS realized a 71 percent decrease in claims with a payment or expected payment by the insurance company in comparison to 2012.  While this change represents a reduction of just 5 accidents year-to-year, it is indicative of the high safety standards expected of JTS drivers.

JTS Operations Supervisor Dave Kipp, who represents Janesville on the TMI Board, received the congratulatory plaque on May 21.  As he explains, “I am thrilled for JTS, and particularly our professional drivers, to be recognized for our improvement. JTS provides safe and convenient bus service to our passengers every day, and this award demonstrates our long-term commitment to continuous improvement in safety and service.”
