Company and executive receive awards at WTS Phoenix event

Keolis Transit America’s commitment to diversity received top honors this weekend at the WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter Award and Scholarship Event.

Keolis Transit America was selected as the Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award recipient.  The award was named for Parks, an African American woman, who changed the course of history on December 5, 1955, after refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She was arrested as a result and her action, sparking a year-long transit boycott and leading to new public transit laws.  This turn of events helped to launch the modern American civil rights movement and other freedom movements throughout the world.

Keolis Transit America was chosen for this award due to their efforts in broadening multi-cultural initiatives, changing corporate cultures and philosophies. Diversity, inclusiveness, and multi-cultural awareness are the attributes which prompted WTS to choose Keolis Transit America for The Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award.

Christina Bird, vice president of market development at Keolis Transit America was also the proud recipient of the 2013 Member of the Year Award for the Greater Metropolitan of Phoenix Chapter of WTS.  Bird was honored at an award ceremony and dinner on Saturday.  She was chosen for this award due to her commitment to promoting WTS internationally as well as in the local community.  Bird co-chaired the WTS Annual Halloween Golf Tournament for the Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter for the last two years. Her efforts significantly increased the revenue for the golf tournament from previous years which provides scholarships for education to woman pursuing a career in transportation.

Her recognition for this honor is also due to her contributions toward advancing women and minorities through initiating programs and opportunities in the transportation industry.  Keolis Transit America is proud of Bird’s accomplishments and congratulates her for this significant achievement.
