CA: San Joaquin RTD Awarded Bus Driver Safety Award

On March 21, San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) coach operator Christy Benson received the Central California Safety Council’s Bus Driver Safety Award for 2013 at its 80th Anniversary Safety Celebration Banquet in Stockton, Calif.

On March 21, San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) coach operator Christy Benson received the Central California Safety Council’s Bus Driver Safety Award for 2013 at its 80th Anniversary Safety Celebration Banquet in Stockton, Calif.

The Bus Driver Safety Award recognizes a bus driver who has demonstrated a sustained and outstanding level of job performance and citation-free driving safety record.

Benson has worked as a coach operator for RTD since 1983 and during her time at RTD has driven over 1 million miles and has served hundreds of thousands of customers safely, reliably, and efficiently. She has driven the last 13 years without a preventable accident, and has received numerous commendations from her passengers over the years. She was RTD’s Transportation Employee of the Year for 2009, has been the transportation employee of the month several times, and has represented coach operators in RTD’s marketing materials.

In addition to her coach operator duties, Benson also previously served RTD as a part-time field supervisor. Prior to working at RTD, she worked as a bus driver for Sullivan and Co. and Stockton Unified School District, where she served young adults and persons with disabilities.

The Central California Safety Council presented the award at its 80th Anniversary Safety Celebration at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.
