Real-time technology is elevating the public transit experience in Santa Clara Valley for almost 11 million light rail riders through a partnership between TransLoc, SinglePoint Communications and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
The addition of real-time transit information through TransLoc allows riders to know the location and arrival time of their train at any point along the route. This puts riders in control of their schedule by minimizing wait time and helping them avoid missing trains. The information can be accessed in real time from a web browser or smartphone using TransLoc’s top-rated mobile apps.
“VTA is committed to making light rail a more convenient and compelling alternative to driving, and real-time information helps make our system more accessible to riders,” said Bernice Alaniz, VTA communications. “We’re dedicating resources on Thursday to help current and future riders learn how TransLoc can help them get where they need to go.”
In addition to knowing exactly where their train is, riders can now receive alerts when their train is arriving and easily plan around personal schedule changes or non-routine trips. Riders with access to real-time passenger information commonly report improved travel efficiency, ease of use, and feelings of security and trust in the system.
The partnership was made possible through VTA’s long-term relationship with SinglePoint Communications, which provides high-speed Wi-Fi to VTA light rail, and their existing commitment to their passengers.
“We are honored to have worked with VTA since 2011, when our Wi-Fi In Motion Moovbox vehicle connectivity solution was installed throughout their entire fleet of light rail trains and a portion of their buses,” said SinglePoint Communications CEO Rob Taylo. “The addition of real-time technology will offer an unprecedented level of convenience and connectivity to VTA riders.”
