OH: Cincinnati Metro 40th Anniversary Celebrations Recognize Employees, Community and Partners

Metro celebrated to a disco beat as it hosted several events to commemorate its 40th anniversary as greater Cincinnati’s public transit system. In addition to events for employees, Metro hosted a community-wide celebration on Aug. 15 and a partner luncheon on Aug. 16.

Community Celebration

Metro’s free event for the public in downtown Cincinnati’s Fountain Square featured an historic bus, prizes, music from 1973 and a vow renewal ceremony to celebrate a couple who met on Metro’s Rt. 21 in 1975. The couple, Captain Rex and Anita Settlemoir, rode to the event on a new Metro*Plus bus and Metro Operator Orlando King led the ceremony.

Anniversary Luncheon

Metro hosted an anniversary luncheon on Aug. 16 at the Westin Cincinnati Hotel. With many sponsors, including major platinum level Sponsors MV Transportation, SPX Genfare and Gillig, the event recognized community partners with awards and provided a chance to look back at the past and recognize the exciting future ahead for Metro.

Metro also kicked off exciting new service improvements:

• Metro*Plus: On Monday, Aug. 19, new, limited-stop Metro*Plus service began connecting the Montgomery Road corridor from Kenwood to Xavier with Uptown, downtown and The Banks. Metro*Plus service operates every 15 minutes on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 6-10 p.m.
• More westside service: More routes began serving Metro’s Glenway Crossing Transit Center including service to the new Mercy Health West Hospital that opens this fall and all-day service to Price Hill.
• More crosstown service: Metro also added new crosstown options connecting Western Hills to Uptown, Hyde Park and Oakley and more service on busy routes.
