New Parking Garage to Open Aug. 26 at Dunn Loring Station

Aug. 20, 2013
Surface lot will permanently close Sunday to make way for 50 percent parking expansion.

A new 1400-space parking garage at Dunn Loring Station will open for customers on Aug. 26, replacing the station’s existing surface lot and marking an important milestone in a project that will ultimately result in a 50 percent increase in parking capacity.

The new garage, which was constructed by Mill Creek Residential as part of a joint development project, will be operated by Metro. Existing parking rates will not change.

“The new garage is a welcome enhancement for Dunn Loring customers, who will now benefit from weather-protected parking, improved lighting and high-definition security cameras,” said Patrick Schmitt, Metro’s director of parking. “We look forward to the second phase of the project which, when complete, will result in a 50 percent increase in parking capacity at the station.”

With the opening of the new garage, the surface parking lot will become the site for the second phase of the garage, which will expand capacity by 700 spaces. The surface lot will permanently close at the end of the service day Sunday, August 25, to allow for construction.

Traffic patterns will be reconfigured to accommodate the opening of the new garage. Motorists should follow new signage and variable message boards.

Phase II of the garage is expected to be complete in late 2014.
