The Federal Transit Administration has selected VIA Metropolitan Transit to be one of ten transit agencies in the nation to receive extensive training in environmental management.

The FTA’s Environmental Management Systems program, or EMS, was implemented to assist agencies in developing good business practices that emphasize environmental stewardship. VIA’s commitment to lessening its impact on the environment is already vigorous. The agency’s participation in the EMS program will add to those efforts.

The EMS program will last for about two years, and it will provide assistance to VIA in the form of training workshops, on-site technical support visits, electronic materials and resources, and consultations. This support will augment VIA’s work in reducing fleet emissions while also increasing recycling, conservation, and renewable energy options.
