Cincinnati Metro No Longer Selling Bus Tokens, Effective Dec. 31, 2012

For decades, bus tokens have been used to pay bus fare in Cincinnati.

But the era of the bus token is coming to an end, as Metro sells its last bus tokens on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.

Metro’s current silver bus tokens are good for a one-way, $1.75 ride within Zone 1 (City of Cincinnati). Instead of tokens, Metro will sell a new 10-ride Zone 1 ticket. Metro’s new fareboxes make this convenience possible.

“Our new fareboxes support new fare options that make riding Metro easier,” said Terry Garcia Crews, Metro’s CEO. “Tokens are awkward to use. Our new 10-ride tickets are much more convenient.”

Metro bus tokens will continue to be accepted on buses for six months, until June 30, 2013. No cash refunds will be given for tokens.

Metro’s new 10-ride tickets are on sale now at Metro’s sales office, 120 E. Fourth Street, Mercantile Building arcade downtown, weekdays 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
