National celebration to highlight the benefits of public transportation.

First Transit Inc. is celebrating the Seventh Annual National Dump the Pump Day in conjunction with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and other transportation organizations throughout the country on Thursday, June 21. Dump the Pump Day encourages the public to use public transportation as a way to save money and reduce an individual’s carbon footprint.

“This industry wide celebration is an excellent opportunity for transit professionals to educate the community on public transportation options in their area,” said Brad Thomas, president of First Transit and First Services. “The benefits of implementing public transportation into an individual’s lifestyle can quickly be seen. From saving money to living greener, public transit is a great way to help communities grow.”

According to the APTA, individuals who use public transportation can save an average of $823 a month, or $9,880 annually. In addition to savings, riders can also make an impact in their environment from utilizing public transportation by significantly reducing carbon emissions and green house gases.
