The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will once again join forces with Dunkin’ Donuts to help replenish the Maryland Food Bank. On Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:00 a.m.to 9:00 a.m. at the Owings Mills Metro Subway Station, representatives from the MTA, Dunkin’ Donuts and the Maryland Food Bank will be on site to accept non-perishable food items or monetary donations to benefit the Food Bank. Dunkin’ Donuts will provide free samples for anyone who donates, while supplies last.
The partnership with the MTA and Dunkin’ Donuts to benefit the Maryland Food Bank is a strong one, dating to the first food drive in 2008. MTA Administrator Ralign T. Wells said, “The MTA is committed to being an active community partner. Our employees have supported a number of food and blood drives and our busses have served as temporary shelters during emergencies. We encourage our daily Metro Subway riders to join us in helping to make a difference at this food drive.”
The Maryland Food Bank, an affiliate of America’s Second Harvest and the only food bank serving the entire state, was founded in 1979. It supplies free food to more than 50,000 Marylanders each week. Some of the most needed items include: peanut butter, canned meat, pasta, evaporated milk, infant formula, canned soups, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, powdered milk, oatmeal and breakfast cereals.
Dunkin’ Donuts, founded in 1950, is the largest coffee and baked goods chain in the world.
