Former Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel has been appointed by Richardson, Addison, Highland Park and University Park to represent them on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) board of directors.

Former Richardson Mayor Gary Slagel has been appointed by Richardson, Addison, Highland Park and University Park to represent them on the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) board of directors.

Slagel, elected to the city council in 1987, served as mayor from 1991 to 2007, then again from 2009 to 2011. He is currently the president and CEO of CapitalSoft, a company that develops and implements program management software for the public and private sector construction markets.

Slagel brings years of transportation experience to the DART board having served on the Regional Transportation Council from 1987 to 1991, the North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Board from 1991 to 1996, and the Executive Committee of the Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition from 1991 to 2006. For his service, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce in 2011.

A member of the Texas Transportation Institutes Advisory Council, Slagel graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology and received a master's degree in business administration from Amberton University in Dallas.
