Philip Klinkon joins HNTB’s architecture practice

Klinkon brings more than 26 years of urban design and transit experience to HNTB.

Philip Klinkon, AIA, has joined HNTB Corp.'s West Division as transit studio leader, in which he will lead the division's transit architecture team, while also coordinating with the transit group in New York.

Klinkon has more than 26 years of experience designing and managing complex, large and small scale transit, urban public and private sector projects. His work includes numerous heavy rail, light rail, commuter rail, bus rapid transit, monorail, streetcar and maglev station designs. He also has led the design of multi-modal facilities, ferry terminals, highway projects, toll and border crossing facilities, and traffic management centers.

Prior to joining HNTB, Klinkon led IBI Group's west coast transit architecture practice in Seattle. While there, he served as the lead architect for preliminary engineering of Sound Transit's EastLink light rail system. He also managed the design of numerous bus rapid transit projects, including Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's "Rapid Transit," Orange County Transportation Authority's "Bravo!" and Community Transit's "Swift Bus" in Seattle.

Klinkon is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Public Transit Authority and the Urban Land Institute. In addition to his professional memberships, he has lectured about transit architecture and technology, and has taught undergraduate and graduate level transit design studios.
