The director of the Craven County Area Transit System (CARTS), which serves Craven, Pamlico and Jones counties, is leaving the post for a job in Asheville.

Rosann Christian, who beat out 30 other applicants for the $56,800 per year CARTS job, will be rejoining transit contractor First Transit, Inc., the company with which she worked in Fayetteville and Lima, Ohio, for five years prior to joining CARTS last August.

County Manager Jack Veit told the Craven County Board of Commissioners about her resignation in a closed session last week. He said afterward that Christian had been offered substantially more money to do the contract Asheville job than the CARTS post could pay.

Asheville Redefines Transit (ART) operates a more urban transportation system. It serves the city of Asheville and the town of Black Mountain, as well as the UNC-Asheville and Warren Wilson College.
